The Outer Worlds (PS4)

The Outer Worlds is a single-player, first-person role-playing game set at the far edge of the galaxy, and this is the physical disc for PlayStation 4, published by Microsoft Corporation. You play someone who was lost in transit on a colonist ship and wakes up decades later than planned, right in the middle of a conspiracy.

Halcyon, a colony in trouble

Your arrival changes everything. The conspiracy threatens to destroy the Halcyon colony, and a host of factions are competing for power as you explore the farthest reaches of space. In the corporate equation that runs the colony, you are the unplanned variable, so the choices you make decide what becomes of everyone there.

The tone is darkly funny, and the game invites you to try not to break the future.

Gameplay and features

• Single-player, first-person RPG for 1 player
• Build any character you like, with optional flaws that reflect how you actually play
• Lead a crew of companions, each with unique abilities plus their own missions, motivations and ideals
• Find your ship and travel to settlements, space stations and other varied locations
• Meet factions that all want control of Halcyon, and decide who you side with
• DUALSHOCK 4 vibration support

The game is built around choice. Who you become, which companions you back and which factions you help all shape how the story plays out, and the optional flaws are there to make a character feel like yours rather than a perfect build.

If you enjoyed space-faring RPGs where dialogue matters as much as combat, this single-player adventure puts that at the centre.

Why play The Outer Worlds on PS4

This is the PlayStation 4 disc, so it runs straight from the console with the DUALSHOCK 4 vibrating along with the action. The disc also plays on a PS5 console that has a disc drive, which is useful if you upgrade your hardware later.
