Pokémon Violet (Nintendo Switch)

Pokémon Violet is an open-world Pokémon adventure developed by GAME FREAK and published by Nintendo for Nintendo Switch. It offers a boundless journey with new Pokémon to discover and a player count listed as up to four.

A boundless open-world adventure

Violet and its sister game Scarlet share one adventure in an open-world setting. You explore, collect and battle at your own pace, with new Pokémon to find along the way.

Violet is the version associated with Miraidon, while Scarlet carries Koraidon. The core story is the same, and the game is tagged as Adventure and RPG.

The adventure is set in the Paldea region, where you attend an academy and are free to choose the order in which you take on the game's three main storylines. A battle feature called Terastallization lets Pokémon crystallise and change type temporarily, which gives fights an extra layer of strategy. In Violet, the academy you attend is Uva Academy.

That freedom makes the game feel different from earlier entries, because nothing pushes you down a single path. You can follow the story, hunt for a rare Pokémon you spotted in the distance, or simply wander and see what the region has in store.

Why play Pokémon Violet on Nintendo Switch

Open-world exploration suits Nintendo Switch well, giving you the freedom to wander, collect and battle with friends in a shared adventure. A physical game card makes it easy to store, lend and swap.

If you are deciding between this and Pokémon Scarlet, think about which legendary partner you like best; the adventure is the same.
