Pokémon Shining Pearl (Nintendo Switch)

Pokémon Shining Pearl invites you to journey through the Sinnoh region on Nintendo Switch. Published by Nintendo, it is a role-playing adventure rated PEGI 7 on a physical game card, with a player count of up to 16 listed.

Sinnoh, with Palkia on the cover

Shining Pearl shares its story and region with Brilliant Diamond, and the two are sister versions. Shining Pearl is the one with the space-warping Palkia on the cover, while Diamond features Dialga, and each version has a few Pokémon of its own.

You start as a young trainer, choose a first partner and work your way through the region, catching, training and battling along the way. The game is tagged as Adventure and RPG, which gives you a good mix of exploration and strategy.

The journey begins in a small town and leads through a series of gyms to the Pokémon League. Pokémon follow you as you walk, and beneath the surface, the Grand Underground adds a different kind of exploration. Super Contests also let you show off the appeal of your Pokémon rather than only their battle strength, which gives you a gentler way to play.
