Pokémon Shield sends you to the Galar region to discover new Pokémon, exclusively on Nintendo Switch. It is developed by GAME FREAK, published by Nintendo and supplied as a physical game card.

A new region to explore

Galar is a new region with its own Pokémon, trainers and landmarks. You set out as a young trainer, build a team and follow a path of battles through the region, discovering new Pokémon as you go.

Shield and Sword share the same story, but each has its own legendary Pokémon and a few version differences. Shield is the version that features Zamazenta on the cover.

Galar draws on the look of the United Kingdom, and its Gym Challenge plays out in stadiums in front of cheering crowds. Between gyms you can visit the Wild Area, a large open space where Pokémon roam and the weather changes. In gym battles, the Dynamax feature lets a Pokémon grow to giant size for a few turns, which can turn a fight around in a moment.

Shield also features the Ghost-type gym leader Allister, one of the characters that sets this version apart from Sword.
