Pikmin 1+2 (Nintendo Switch)

Pikmin 1+2 collects the first two Pikmin games for Nintendo Switch, following Captain Olimar through his adventures on an uncharted planet with the small but mighty Pikmin. It is published by Nintendo, rated PEGI 3 and supplied as a physical game card.

Olimar and the Pikmin

Captain Olimar is stranded on a strange planet, and the only creatures willing to help are the Pikmin, tiny plant-like companions you can lead, throw and command. The first game is about recovering what you need to get home, while the second sends you back to explore further and gather what you find along the way.

The genre tags are Action, Adventure and Strategy, which describes the mix well: you plan your route, split your Pikmin into groups and react quickly when creatures get in the way.

Because it covers two games, it gives you a lot of play from a single card. You get the original story of Olimar and his small companions, and then a second adventure that builds on the same ideas, which makes it a tidy way to catch up on the series.

Why play Pikmin 1+2 on Nintendo Switch

The Pikmin games are made of short, satisfying chunks of play, which makes them a natural fit for a console you can pick up and put down. With two games on one card, it is also an easy way to start the series from the beginning.

A low age rating and an approachable pace make it a good option for younger players, and strategy fans will find plenty to optimise as they go.
