Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle (Nintendo Switch)

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a turn-based combat game for Nintendo Switch that wraps strategy inside an adventure. It is published by Ubisoft, was built by a group of Ubisoft studios, supports one or two players and carries a PEGI 7 rating, so it suits a mixed-age household as well as a solo player who likes to think a few moves ahead.

An adventure full of surprises

Ubisoft pitches this one as an over-the-top adventure packed with unexpected surprises, and that tone is the point of the whole package. Instead of the usual jump-and-run formula, the game puts you in turn-based battles where every move is planned before it is made.

Its genres are listed as Adventure and Strategy. In practice that means you spend your time positioning, choosing your actions and reacting to what the other side does, rather than relying on quick reflexes. It is a good fit for players who enjoy tactical games but want a lighter, more colourful setting than most of the genre offers.

Why play it on Nintendo Switch

Kingdom Battle is a Nintendo Switch game, and the physical game card keeps things simple: insert it and start playing. Because the game supports two players, it also works as something you can share instead of a purely solo experience.

If you are choosing between action games and something slower, this is the sort of title that rewards patience. Turn-based play means there is no pressure from the clock, which is helpful for younger players or anyone who wants to play at their own pace.
