Where the M171 fits

The M171 is a good match for a home desk, a study corner or a laptop bag. It is small at 97.7 x 61.5 x 35.2 mm, and because the design is ambidextrous it works equally well for left-handed and right-handed users.

It is not a gaming-grade sensor, but for browsing, documents and general use it keeps things simple: plug in the receiver and the mouse is ready. Compatibility across PC, Mac, ChromeOS and Linux also makes it handy if you use more than one computer.

Performance and build

The M171 focuses on simple, reliable everyday use. The optical sensor tracks at a nominal 1000 DPI, which is a comfortable level for office work, web browsing and general desktop tasks, and the three buttons plus scroll wheel cover the basics.

Power is handled by a single AA battery, already installed in the box, with up to 12 months of use listed. An on/off switch lets you save power when you pack the mouse away. The mouse weighs 69.3 g with the battery installed, and the package contains the wireless mouse, the USB receiver, the AA battery and the user documentation. It also comes in a Black/Grey finish that suits most desks.
