Contra Anniversary Collection (Nintendo Switch)

Contra Anniversary Collection is an action and arcade collection from KONAMI for Nintendo Switch. Rated PEGI 7 and playable by one or two players, it is about grabbing power-ups and blasting through waves of menacing enemies and bosses.

Power-ups, enemies and bosses

The core of the experience is run-and-gun action: collect power-ups, take down waves of enemies and push on to confront the bosses. The tone is arcade through and through, with the focus on speed and survival.

As an Anniversary Collection, the package celebrates the series in a single game card. KONAMI lists it in the action and arcade genres, and the one- or two-player setup fits the classic style of the franchise.

Gameplay and features

From the listing for this edition:

• Action and arcade gameplay
• Power-ups to collect along the way
• Waves of enemies and bosses to defeat
• One or two players
• Rated PEGI 7
• Physical game card for Nintendo Switch
• On-screen text in Japanese and English

As a collection with an anniversary edition label, it also works as a keepsake for people who already know the series, and as an introduction for those who never played it. If you enjoy tight, high-intensity arcade action, this style of game is easy to get into and tough to put down. The straightforward goals leave little to learn before you start shooting, which makes it a good choice for quick sessions as well as longer ones.

Why play it on Nintendo Switch

Arcade action is better with a partner, and this collection supports two players, so you can team up with a friend or sibling. A second controller is all you need to go from solo play to a shared session.

The physical game card plugs straight into the console. On-screen text is listed in Japanese and English only, so it is best suited to players comfortable with English menus.
