ARK: Survival Evolved (Nintendo Switch)

ARK: Survival Evolved is an adventure, first-person shooter and RPG for Nintendo Switch, published by Snail Games USA. This version has been updated to the latest version of Unreal Engine 4 with improved visuals, increased performance and plenty of new content, and it is listed for one to 64 players.

A survival adventure with scale

The listing places ARK in the adventure, first-person shooter and RPG genres, which gives a sense of how broad the game is. It is the kind of title where you are dropped into a challenging world and have to find your own way forward, so it suits players who like open-ended goals over a linear story. The Unreal Engine 4 update is the headline change here, bringing better-looking visuals and smoother performance alongside the extra content.

Gameplay and features

• Adventure, first-person shooter and RPG genres
• Updated to the latest version of Unreal Engine 4
• Improved visuals and increased performance
• New content added to the game
• Player count listed from 1 to 64
• Rated PEGI 16
• On-screen text in ten languages, including English, French, German, Spanish and Japanese

A player count that runs up to 64 is unusual on a console, and it points to a game that is as much about the community as the single-player experience. You can play alone, but there is clearly room for large groups.

Why play it on Nintendo Switch

Bringing a game of this size to Nintendo Switch means you can take on a large survival adventure on a console you may already own. The physical game card makes it easy to add to your library without a download. With a PEGI 16 rating, it is aimed at older teens and adults, so keep that in mind if the console is shared with younger family members.

Released on 30 November 2018, the game offers on-screen text in ten languages, including Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Portuguese. Remember the PEGI 16 rating when deciding who in the household should play.
