It was released on 17 October 2023, carries a MENA rating of 3 and supports up to four players.

The Northstar Islands

The adventure takes place across the mystical Northstar Islands, in a new take on classic 2D Sonic high-speed platforming. The story has Dr. Eggman teaming up with Fang and a mysterious new adversary, who are converting the islands' giant animals into Badniks.

The side-scrolling action you know is reimagined with fully 3D graphics, new powers and abilities, and an all-new setting.

Gameplay and features

Play as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles or Amy, each with unique abilities

Chaos Emerald powers that let you multiply, swim up waterfalls, slow time and uncover hidden secrets

Four-player local co-op with drop-in and drop-out, a first for a Sonic game's entire campaign

Battle Mode for up to 8 players, locally or online

Remote Play supported

In-game purchases optional

The description also stresses that you can play the whole campaign with up to three other players.

Why play it on PS5

Online play, including Battle Mode with up to 8 players, requires PlayStation Plus, but the four-player local co-op needs nothing beyond the disc and a few controllers. That makes it a convenient living-room game.

On-screen languages include English, Russian, German, Spanish, French, Polish, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil) and Japanese. The disc needs a PS5 with a disc drive.

Some practical points before you order. This is a PS5 disc, so you need a console with a disc drive. The MENA rating of 3 suits younger players, and the local co-op means a group on the sofa can play together with no online connection at all. Remote Play is supported if you want to play on another device, and in-game purchases are optional.

Game details

Detail

Information

Platform

PlayStation 5

Format

Physical disc for PlayStation 5

Publisher

SEGA EUROPE LTD

Release date

17 October 2023

Genre

Action

Players

Up to 4 local, up to 8 online

Online

Optional; PlayStation Plus required (up to 8 players)

Age rating

MENA rating 3

On-screen languages

English, Russian, German, Spanish, French, Polish, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Japanese

Edition

Standard

Gather the group with more PlayStation 5 games, the PlayStation consoles, and extra PlayStation controllers.
